Video files not playing

I'm finding that my PPT2003 (WinXP pro SP2) won't play *any* inserted
video files except animated gifs. I'm not alone on this issue and have
tried some suggestions from Google such as turning off video
acceleration, and having the PFCPro application convert the video to a
compliant wmv, but no luck. I've tried having it display "onClick",
"before previous" and "after previous" timings, but still no luck. The
files play everywhere on my system with several video player
applications, but not PPT. Any advice on resolving this issue will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Any chance you installed Windows Media Player 11? If so you may want to
consider downloading and going back to version 10. In fact, I would suggest
reinstalling media player to correct any file, dll, application associations
either way.

I took your suggestion and uninstalled WMP11. WinXP automatically rolled
back to my previous WMP10 version. I'm ecstatic to find that your
solution worked like a charm!! You've saved me a lot of frustration.
Thank you so much.

TAJ,

In honesty I am not certain but I am finding that WMP 11 on XP seems to
cause all sorts of issues with PowerPoint (and other apps) when it comes to
media. I haven't been able to fully pin it down but it appears that WMP 11
puts a good deal of DRM (digital rights management) in the system and
prevents even none copyrighted media from being used.

I hate to say it but my advice to users is to NOT update to WMP 11 at all.
