Video Drivers disabled

G

Geto

I installed the new SP2 and after rebooting, my video
resolution changed to a 4bit color (?).
I knew it had something to do with my video drivers, so I
went to the Device Manager, and (by mistake) disabled the
video drivers.
After rebooting, I can see the Windows logo and
everithing loading perfectly, but after that, all I have
is a pitch black screen.

I tried the safe mode boot, but it gets stuck loading a
Mup.sys driver, I tried the rest of booting modes and I
still get the black screen.

Any help? ideas? thougs?

Thanks

At bootup, press F8. Boot into VGA mode. Then reinstall your graphics
drivers.

I TRIED REBOOTING IN EVER MANNER IN WINDOWS AND STILL GET A BLACK SCREEN. I
HAD UPGRADED FROM WIN 98. I CAN BOOT FROM A DOS DISK AND GET TO A C PROMPT
BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GET A VIDEO DRIVER FROM FOR XP HOME EDITION OR
WHERE TO COPY IT TO IN DOS SO THAT XP WILL BOOT UP AGAIN

Press F8 at startup and boot into Safe Mode. Then reenable the display
drivers.

Hmm.

Nope.

I have this problem too. I stupid disabled my video driver and now my
machine logs on just fine but without the video feed.

I'm thinking of trying to re-enable it 'blind' as it were, by having another
computer with the same system open and just copying all the buttons I press
to do so on this one...

But yeah.

Booting in VGA mode still results in a black screen and booting in Safe Mode
results in a long string of writing, the last one of which ends in
"\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys"

Then the machine just stops.

Any other suggestions? Before I try the 'blind re-enable' approach?

Update on the 're-enabling it blind' thing.

It didn't work out.

Grr.

Still, worth a shot if you can try it...

Anyone else got any ideas?

Has it got an S-Video output, if so that may still output a signal.
Connect to an external display/TV and see if you can re-enable from
that screen.
If not, Remove the graphics card, boot computer, then shut down
insert graphics card, boot and with luck it may "reinstall" the card.

Thank you for the advice.

Unfortunately, the problem is on my laptop and I'm not comfortable with the
idea of cracking it open.

I suppose I could find a computer shop nearby who might do it for me.. (Then
if anything goes wrong, I can at least get compensation!)

Thanks again.

Thank you.

I tried it.

It was the same as trying to start in Safe Mode. A string of text down the
screen, until it reaches one ending in "...\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys" After
that, it just stops and refuses to boot up.

But thanks anyway.
