Video driver problem

Hi

I have a PC with 2.5 Gig RAM, P4 3.3 HT CPU and a 256 Meg nVidia card.

I upgraded from XP home to Vista Ultimate, the graphics performance was very
poor so I uninstalled the Windows driver with the intention of installing the
driver from the nVidia site.
After the uninstall I restarted the PC but got a BOD then the option to
restart normally or safe mode etc.
I tried normal but the PC would only restart in safe mode.

I installed the nVidia driver in safe mode but still cannot start normally.

Anyone with a suggestion on how to fix this problem with my PC.

thanks and regards

What is the error message and error number you get with your BSOD? You
could also try uninstalling the nVidia driver in safe mode and get Windows
Update to offer you a replacement.

Hi, thanks for the response,

I have noit been able to write the error down it is too long and dissapears,
it is something like 07o0000cx and a lot more.

I have tried to do windows update but cannot work out how to get it to look
for hardware drivers, I only get software updates.

I posted a request for help on the Update site but all I got was a lot of
smart Alec replyes about not using Windows updates for hardware drivers and
changing to a Mac.

cheers

You can select the option using F8 to not automatically reboot, or something
like that and you will be able to write down the code and message.
Windows updates does provide drivers, but you need to do the custom update,
if I recall, but you can uninstall the nVidia driver in Control
Panel/Programs/uninstall a program. Then go into device manager and for
your display adapter, if it shows your video card, uninstall, then go to
the top and do a scan for hardware changes. When your display adapter is
shown, or if still there, do an update driver, let it search for the best
driver, and make sure you are online so it can search there. If it finds
one, install it, otherwise reboot and see if you can normal boot.
