video CLIPS in Power Point Presentations

I am wanting to insert some video clips that I have taken
on my Canon G3 camera. I have the clips on my PC. Power
Point allows me to go to their clip art pages and select
art work that is available - this includes several video
clips - these work with my presentation when I use them.
I can insert them on a slide and they play when the slide
is displayed. Why then can't I insert my own video
clips? Can it be done? - clearly the program allows it
as I can insert a video clip from the art pages that are
available. Can someone give me a step by step 'how to do
it' for this please.

Do your video clips have the 3 letter extension AVI?
