Video captured is jerky and audio out of sync

Video source is VHS-C analog camcorder. It has worked OK in the past with
MovieMaker 2.1. Latest video looks OK when played back through camcorder's
viewfinder, but when "capturing" video the picture becomes jerky (instead of
fluid and smooth) after about the first 20 or 30 seconds and the audio goes
out of sync from the video.

How can I fix this?

Have checked all connections, updated with new video/display drivers, and
even tried capturing at lower quality than the default "Best quality for
playback..." but captured video is still jerky.

Help, please!

Analog capture is a tricky thing to do in Movie Maker. Your lucky if you can
get it to work at all without the use of a digital converter of some sort
(such as Pinnacle's Dazzle 90) tinyurl.com/eaval .
But it sounds like you are getting it to work in your case but your computer
can't keep up without dropping a lot of frames. Read this article by Graham
which tells you of quite a few ways you can speed things up a bit:

Thanks for responding. Have read the article you gave a link to and went
through the recommendations, but it has made no difference. Video is still
jerky and audio goes out of sync. Oh well....

Have you made any changes to the pc since it last worked? New
software/hardware/updates or conversley removed any?

Use system restore to go back to when it last worked ok and see if that
improves things?

I have a great little analog to digital converter called a cameramate it
takes a composite video signal from 3 RCAs and puts out to a usb cable,
presto! Or infrom Svideo. Great video from camera, VCR, DVD player, and even
my satelite TV digital video recorder. Just capture it direct. Not as good as
firewire, but more than serviceable. Manufactured by Zio corp. about $45 at
local compUSA!
