video capture (card?)

I have a sony DIG VID CAM CORD DCRTVR140 NTSC. when I try to capture video via fire wire connection I get a information message saying unable to locate video device or A video capture device was not detected. Is there not a video capture device in Windows Movie Maker? I am Using a new hp512/130gb. Any sugguestions?

The capture device that it can not detect is your camera.

I have almost the same setup as you (sony video cam and
hp computer). All I have to do is turn my camera off then
back on the windows movie maker recognizes my camera. It
does work - might be something wrong with your connection.

yes there is a capture feature in movie maker...it's the
camera icon next to the record button under the viewer.
