Very strange Excel behaviour

I am hoping someone will be able to help me. I provide IT support for a
large company. I have a couple of users who have started expereincing some
really strange issues with their Excel files, which are saved on the network.

1. Documents save with no error, but when they are reopened, the changes are
not there - BUT on one occasion the changes appeared after opening th efile 4
times
2. Links disappear right before her eyes
3. Files containing pivot tables do not always save - document not saved -
is the error and then the file cannot even be saved to a hard drive.

I can understand that 2 and 3 may be network related, but 1 really baffles
me. Where would the changes go if they finally appear after opening the
excel spreadsheet a number of times?

Virus guard is up to date
We are running MS Office 2000 Pro, sp3
Windows 2000, sp4
Active Directory network

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Claire

They all sound like network issues to me, especially no 3.
Not so much the pivots (are they to an external datasource?), but the doc
not saved error is a common one with networks. And you can never save it
locally after the error.
If the network connection drops Excel may not recognise it when it comes
back up, also disc quotas can make the issue worse.
Try saving with a new name, or as a different file type (eg 95/97) or copy
all the worksheets to a new workbook and try saving again.
Main thing though is to check out your network quality
cheers
Simon
