Very slow logon....

RIch

I'm running Win Server 2000 activated Acitve Directory. My
problem is that the workstations take 6 minutes to logon.
Once the users enter the ID and PWD click enter it takes
at least 6 minutes to reach the desktop. It stays dangling
in setting up profile.
How can I speed the process up? There are no other
services running.
Thanks...any hepl would be appreciated.

Sounds like you don't have DNS set up correctly.

AD MUST have a DNS server for AD, NOT your ISP's DNS server.
Point the AD DNS server to itself for DNS in the properties of TCP/IP
Point ALL AD clients to the AD DNS server ONLY. Do not put your ISP's DNS
servers on the clients.
For Internet access configure your AD DNS server to forward requests and
list your ISP's DNS server as the forwarder,

I ran into this problem a few years ago. It took me quite
a while to figure out, with MS Tech Support having no luck
either. It turns out it was a Kerberos problem trying to
use UDP. Forcing it to use TCP fixed the problem. This
may not be your problem, but it's worth a try. Here's the
KB article on how to make the change.

(BTW, I then used Group Policy to push the changes out to
everyone.)
