Very slow local dirve access from the remote computer

Hello,
I can access the hard drive of the remote computer very
fast, however, accessing the local drives from the remote
computer is very slow. Why? Can it be solved?
I am using Remote Desktop Connection on both computers
that are running Win XP Pro.
