Very slow bootup in XP

G

Guest

All of a sudden today - have not loaded any new programs or hardware - my
startup takes up to five minutes. The Windows splash screen comes up and
stays there for a couple of minutes without minimal activity from the HDD
light. Then the screen goes black for a 2-3 minutes and eventually the
desktop appears. It takes about 2-3 minutes before the desktop icons appear.

I have tried restoring to 3 days ago and still an issue.

Please help

Thanks,

Neil

Kelly,
your suggestion is relevant to my same problem, but I've warned to be VERY
careful deleting options located by Hijackthis .... any way to identify what
is really valuable to Win XP and what is garbage to be deleted?
