verify your credentials?

I can download messages, but can't read any of them, not even when a new
message is created, and the following error message won't go away, even
though it says all the credentials have been verified:

"this message with restricted permission cannot be viewed in the

reading pane until you verify your credentials. Open the item to

read its contents and verify your credentials".



Other errors that seem to be associated are related to a file

called "ashoutxt.dll" in Avast 4, and an add-in fax server

extension called "fxsext32.dll".

Frustrating. Nothing seems to fix it. I've upgraded everything, and still
nothing solved that problem.

trying to search.

Also related, I believe, is the message "the ordinal 23 could not be located

Just spotted your question--it's version 4.5. The program "fixmapi" solved
both problems, though it's still not clear what that was all about.

One more question--is it expected that sqlserver will hog all the memory and
cpu, taking up to 500 mb at times? Whatever svchost is, terminating it
doesn't seem to affect any programs, it speeds things up a LOT, and then
there's enough memory to run the programs, including Outlook 2007.

But on occasion, sqlserver has to be terminated. Am I doing something wrong?

ps--the more memory I add, the worse this seems to get.

Fixmapi fixes problems when, for whatever reason, another version of
mapi32.dll gets installed and replaces the version outlook installed.
Fixmapi makes sure outlook is using the correct version.

you aren't doing anything wrong - but something is clearly wrong. I don't
know if it's sql or something else - how much memory is in the computer? Too
much can sometimes cause problems...

bring up a cmd window and enter
Tasklist /SVC

this will bring up a list of all running services and include a breakdown of
what is using svchost. It doesn't break down mem usage by service, but
you'll be able to see what is calling it and hopefully that will gives some
clues as to where the problem is.

any of them seem out of the ordinary. Thanks for those articles, which also
don't seem to address the problem--or at least not directly.

It has been suggested that a virus might cause this to happen. Is that
possible, or would it be futile to pursue that course?

Assuming you mean 1.3 GB of memory, no it's not too much - over 3 GB can be.

Yes, a virus can cause the problem you describe, but so can other issues.
Its certainly prudent to run a scan using an online scanner as locally
installed antivirus programs can be disabled by viruses, just to be sure
it's not the cause.

500 mb of memory is not normal and could be caused by exterior problems like
viruses? I will run that external scan to see if that solves the problem,
and let you know how it went.
