Validation in Windows Defender

I hope Microsoft would improve on the Validation mechanism inside the Windows
Defender setup.
Last week I ran the Windows Defender setup program on some PCs residing in
mainland China. Probably due to their Internet connection problems, their PCs
could possibly visit local websites but not foreign websites like
Microsoft.com (maybe due to taiwan earthquake). After I pressed the Validate
button, the software just hangs for many minutes. I could not cancel out of
it. Could Microsoft improve this so that if it cannot connect to the
validation server or Microsoft for any reason, it will timeout quicker so i
can regain control? Can Microsoft setup local validation sites so that when
something like internet connectivity has problem, we can still install and
run defender? This is quite important as computers in mainland China can be
plagued by viruses and spyware. Internet connectivity is not reliable and
slow there, so computer updates can be a struggle. Complete scanning on their
types of config is also slow, making it a pain to support IT.

Thanks - this is excellent feedback. Many of the issues you mention are
true in many other parts of the world, even much closer to Redmond!

I'm not sure whether feedback here reaches the team in charge of WGA--so you
might also want to post this here:

There is only one Validation/Windows Genuine Advantage system--so addressing
the feedback to the above forum should reach the right ears.
