Can someone help me with creating an Out of Office rule that works, either
using the Out of Office Assistant or Rules and Alerts? I've tried both ways
and have been unsuccessful unless I only indicate that I'm out of the office
in the Assistant. Meaning, in the Out of Office Assistant, I cannot figure
out how to put conditions on the reply so that I don't send responses to
distribution lists.

When I tried to create an actual rule that had a certain set of conditions,
it still didn't work.

Try this: click the Add Rule button at the bottom of the Out of Office
Assistant dialogue box. In the From field, enter the sending address of the
DL. Select the Alert action and choose Play. Specify some sounds. It
doesn't matter what. You want some innocuous action that won't matter.
Click OK. Click Advanced. Check the box labeled "Only items that do not
match these conditions". Click OK. You should now be back at the OOA
dialogue. Create a rule like that for each DL.
