Using script for forms instead of FP Extensions

First, my apologies because I am sure that this subject must have been
discussed many times. After looking at the various posts for the last
hour(s?) however I decided to start over and just ask the question.

I use forms on my website [ www.CPAmatchup.com ] with extensions
installed. I only use http (through FP 2003) to maintain the site - I
never use FTP, I say that to eliminate the questions about this. But,
my FP extensions keep breaking. They can be re-installed but that's a
pain. Also, I am never seem to know when they break - unless I do a
test submit - which means that I may have lost someone who tried to
contact me. One of the times that I think the problem has happened is
when I downloaded the site from the server to a local machine, made
changes on pages on the local machine, and then republished the site to
the server. But, I am not sure - I think that the extensions just break
for the heck of it, for something I did in a former life.

So, what's my question? Should I just bypass all this FP Extensions
business, get a script for the forms and go from there. Or, are scripts
going to give me me just as much grief?

Thanks!

Hi Mrs. Leaf,

Actually the FPSE is very stable at this point. Have you contacted your ISP / WPP about the issues?

If you wish to use script contact your ISP / WPP to see if they have a support method or if you must create your own using ASP, PHP
or some other scripting language.

If you're comfortable with scripting, then that is the way
to go.

The only headaches you should have is when you are first
developing / launching them. After that they are pretty much
carefree. The only time I had to put with mine is when I
changed servers, as the technologies changed

Thanks for your responses. My ISP is aware of my problem. But you all
know the stock answer that we get, and, frankly, none of the ISPs
really understand FrontPage. To them it is just a slick marketing
gimmick.

My ISP (Bluehost) has a stock mail form that I can use, but before I
start spending a lot of time learning about CGI and testing the form I
thought I would check other people's experience. So far what I have
heard is that I should just go ahead and put up a script form because
that is more stable in a run-of-the-mill ISP.
