Using PC2700 in PC2100/PC1600 computer?

Hi group,

I wanted to pick up an used motherboard. But the User's Guide states "The
DDR DIMM slots DO NOT support PC2700
modules"

I thought DDR2700 is supposed to be backward compatible with PC2100/PC1600.
Even though the motherboard with VIA KT133 chipset can not take advantage of
the faster PC2700, I though it could at least uses it. I have spare PC2700
but would have to buy PC2100.

Any comment?

Thanks

PS. Crucial.com is listing PC2100, PC2700, PC3200 as suitable memory for
the board?!

The PC2700 RAM will work. It is backward compatible. It will just run at
266 MHz (PC2100).
