using cmd.exe

If I understand your post, you are not in the directory
the program is actually in. I think you either have to put
the directory of the program in the path statemnet, or
specify the full path name the file is in: example
c:\somedirectory\file.exe.

Hi there,

I have a DOS program I've been running for 10 years on
Win 3.1, 95, ME and now XP. But it seems that XP is
having alot of trouble finding the program from other
directories. I know that cmd.exe is not DOS, but can
anyone help shed some light on why I can't get this
program to run?
I click START, RUN, type: CMD. Then I navigate to some
directory that has a file I need to run this program on.
I type the program name, and I get the following:
'fredix' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I've checked my path, and this program's directory is on
it...and the .exe file is in that directory. Any ideas??

Russell,

The directory is on the path statement, and I've never had to type the full path before, so I'd like to not have to do that if possible.

thanks.
