Using character map in Microsoft Mail

Whenever I try to insert the ¢ character into an email message using the
keystroke (Alt+0162) I get a very small smiley face. This also happens
when trying to insert other symbols. The only way I can insert anything is
to copy and paste it into the email message. This did not happen in XP
Outlook Express.

Is there any way I fix this??

Thanks!

Steve,
Thanks for the response. I did as you said and International Send Setting
is set to Western European (ISO) and "when replying to message always use
English headers is checked. Under Read tab International Read Settings says
Western European (Windows) and box is not checked. I checked my other pc
running XP and settings were the same and I get the 'cent' sign.
I still get ☻ here with Vista. Any more suggestions??

¢ is what I get. Try going to Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools
| Character Map and then highlight the cent character and hit the select
button. Then try copying and pasting from that.

If I use the Alt-162 this is what I get: ó . If I just copy from
Character map this is what I get: ¢

I don't pretend to fathom how its working.

This message is a month old so you might not need help anymore (might never
see this) but all the previous messages in this thread have the Encoding
"Western European (ISO)" and I see the cent symbol in every one. For this
last reply though the Encoding is "Unicode (UTF-8)" and I see the smiley
face.
