Using Alt+F4 closes the taskbar

K

Kalps

I typically use Alt+F4 to close applications. If I have 3
applications open and I press this shortcut key more than
3 times, the taskbar is also closed. Pressing the Start
menu key does not bring up the Start menu, so I cannot
start any applications. This is frustrating since I now
have to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete to restart my computer to
bring up the taskbar. Any suggestions on how to resolve
this problem? Many thanks for your help!

Alt+F4 shouldn't ever kill your explorer process. If your taskbar has
focus, and you press F4, this'll bring up the shutdown dialog, but it
shouldn't just kill explorer. I can't tell you why that's happening, but I
can tell you that you don't have to shut down your computer to get your
taskbar back again. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up the task manager, and
do File--New Task---explorer.exe--ENTER.
