Users Outlook Profile/Account not loading

Blaze

Hi

We have a client server setup, with Windows 2000 Server and the AD on one
Box, and Windows 2000 Server with Exchange 5.5 on another Box.

We are using Outlook 2000, All users have roaming profiles

The users are having problems opening Outlook, when Outlook loads it says
you do not have permission to log on, and logs onto a default folders.

When I log on as administrator it happens to me, I then unlike the users can
access the services and change the mailbox from "Default User" to
myself..... the normal users are unable to do this and are then denied
access to outlook.

It looks as tho Outlook is trying to load the"default User" mailbox and
won't let the users mailbox load the user does not have the rights to change
it to their own.

How do I force or make the users mail account open when they log on..

Thanks

Check for userenv errors in the event logs on the workstation. Did this ever
work?

Do the users have NTFS permissions to wherever their Outlook folders
are being stored?

Thanks for the replies...

This is not just happening to 1 user and 1 desktop.....

It's happening to multiple users and on most desktops?!? and it did work or
it worked for a bit as some users who have an older profile stored on a
machine can access Outlook.

I will check the logs on the workstation... but how do I create a new
outlook profile for the user ?

Thanks

Yes this can be done.. but only if a user is logged on with Admin rights,
the normal user can't access the control panel, so must I log on as an
administrator and load 1000 profiles into each workstation ?

any advice appreciated

Thanks

Admin rights are not required for this. Not trying to be harsh, but if you
have a thousand users and don't know how to create/modify/troubleshoot
mail/profile problems, you need to do some reading up. I don't know that
you absolutely need to create new mail profiles, but something has gone awry
or was not set up right to begin with.

Yes I agree with you... something has gone awry...... and this is and other
troubleshooting sites/groups is reading up.

I know how to modify/add/ etc users to a mailbox profile... but if the
profile is not loading up in the first place you have no access to the
services tab in tools to modify/add.

I can as administrator access the control panel and get to the Mail Icon.
and add/modify/troubleshoot Outlook

BUT as a user logged on the control panel isn't even seen, neither is the
run command, the help etc.. all have been taken out by the GPO's

:)

Ah. I wonder whether your GPOs are actually the issue here, then. Perhaps
you need to take a look at them...

Yea ...Gonna take a peek at them and see if stopping them will make a
difference... fingers crossed
