user toolbar problem

I use Word2000 under Windows 2000.
I have created a new template (DOT) and I have added a toolbar and then a
toolbar button with (example) File/New command.
I have then created a new document based on my template and pressed the Word
Close button (cross). When I filled the file name to save my document and
pressed OK, Word hanged.
The same happens (if there is a toolbar added to a document) every time I
want to close word. If I use File/Save and then Exit this does not happen.
Can anybody explain?

Do you see the same if you rename the Normal.dot template, start up Word, and
create a new template in the same way? I'm wondering if the Normal.dot template
on your system might be damaged.

I removed Normal.dot but it does not help.
Word always crashes when I create a new document on my template and then
want to leave Word with the Close button (X) on the word title bar. It does
not happen when I use File/Exit instead.

HOw about if you start Word in SAFE mode? START, Run. Type:
winword.exe /a

then OK. word might look a bit odd, but test whether it will close properly?
