User Profile Problem and Quickbooks

I've got a particular problem where I can't access my quickbooks (UK
edition) data file that I've traced to my User Profile.

The OS is XPPro SP2 with all the latest updates. The pc is virus free and
the discs and files are all in good health.

The actual message from QB is :

Window Title for Error

QB Regular 2005 qbw32.exe - Application Error.

Detailed Message

The instruction at "0x00407634" referenced memory at "0x032bb1ffc". The
memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the programme.

Description of Problem

a.. If I try to open my QB datafile from my pc using my own logon I always
get this error message independent of whether that file is on the server or
my pc.
b.. There are no other preceding error messages.
c.. I can open the datafile from another pc (ie the file is not corrupt -
but see next point anyway).
d.. I can open the datafile using somebody else's logon on my pc
e.. /However/, if I copy my 3 original profile files (ie ntuser.dat
ntuser.dat.log and ntuser.ini) into the other person's account then I can't
access the QB data file from that account either.
Any ideas on how to isolate and fix the problem on my current user account
(because the work I need to do after creating a new account to get to my
current status is pretty significant.)

For info, all the other steps I've taken are below.

TIA

Rob

Other Things I've Done so Far
a.. I've taken out the memory chips and re-inserted them.
b.. I've run a complete memory check using memtest86 v1.65; there were no
errors.
c.. I've reindexed the data file and verified it.
d.. I've run deep scans for viruses, spyware, etc..
e.. I've deep scanned the registry.
f.. I've checked and defragged the HDs

hello,
I believe I have a suggestion to the problem you have encountered. From
your description, this is an application conflict. Basically, some program is
been called at the same time quickbooks is been launched.
You could try stopping some programs in the background by doing the following:
(please make sure you are familiar with this next step or get someone who
knows this to assist you)
on windows xp:
*click on Run
* type in MSCONFIG
*click on the last tab (startup)
This is where you could stop some programs from running in the background
and the you will have to restart.
http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

Secondly, you may want to check for updates from quickbooks.com
I hope this gives you a head to get started in resolving this issue.
Thanks

Thanks for the pointer.

I finally traced it to 'Onguard' which is part of PCTools Spyware Doctor
utility that was in the start-up.

I've disabled that option temporarily and asked PCTools tech support for a
fix.
