User PC issue

I have a user who said that when he turned on his computer this morning, that
the taskbar was missing at first, and the machine was acting very sluggish.

When I looked in his event viewer, he's got a whole slew of Service control
manager 7011 errors. I have found some mention of this here in the forum,
but none of the situations that they got the error apply to this situation.

Just before these errors occurred there was an application popup 26 error
that states that wuauclt.exe (which has something to do with windows update)
failed to start.

Any ideas of what needs to be done with this PC?

Check to see if his drives are using PIO mode instead of one of the DMA
