user passwords

I lost my original user network password, so I tried
creating a new user profile/password, but when entered it
doesn't accept it. My "server" is a win 2000 machine, the
other pc that I am trying to network is a 98 machine. I am
using a linksys router and have no problem connecting with
the internet.

Create a user account on your Windows 2000 computer that has the same logon
name/password that you use to logon to Windows networking on the W98 computer. You
will have to be logged on as an administrator or power user to create user accounts
though power users can not create administrator accounts. --- Steve

Thanks, Steve, but that's the problem, I don't know the
username/password on the W98 computer.

I don't have access to my W98 box right now but if memory serves me correct go to
networking properties and select Client for Microsoft Networks and NOT Windows logon
for primary logon. You then should be prompted for username and password to logon to
the network and if you enter a new name, you can then create a password for it at
that time I believe. If you have a user name you want to use and you forgot the
password try deleting the .pwl for the user in the \Windows folder and use it
again. --- Steve
