User differences

1) Control Panel USERS.... What is the difference between the basic Control
Panel USER ACCOUNTS and the Windows Management Users and Groups? I notice
that if I add people using the Control Panel USER ACCOUNTS they do not show
up under local users nor specifically in the USERS Group.

2) I have some machines that have programs that act up/do not work and my
help desk says they can sometimes be resolved by using the Control Panel and
adding the user via the Users applet. Now this does not happen on ALL
machines with the same software package.

If all these users are encompassed by the DOMAIN\ALL USERS "group" that IS a
member of the local workstations USERS groups, I do not see why adding them
specifically via the Control Panel USERS applet would fix any problems.

HELP!

Thanks
Carl

I can't say that I have noticed any difference in a user's group membership
depending on what interface is used to create the user account but I have
noticed that users can be created via Control Panel/user accounts where the
user has a blank password even if the password policy requires a user
password. Users with blank passwords can not access network shares on XP Pro
[with simple file sharing disabled] and Windows 2003 computers by default.

What you might also consider is to train users to use lusrmgr.msc to create
users possibly using Group Policy to disable doing it via Control Panel and
trying adding authenticated users to the access control lists of the
applications that do not work right with the same permissions as
