Hi Stav,
Can you please let me know your Computer Model and the serial number, and
what you done with the CD (which I assume is a Recovery Disk, did you done a
Repair or Recovery Console procedure?).
As I said you can go to the PC manufacturer website and download the latest
drivers for the Motherboard which will help fix things for you.
Do you have PCI card or all integrated on the Motherboard?.
Also consider "Ghostrider" his point is correct and technically true, try to
disconnect all Devices from the Rear USB and then connect one or two of the
other devices on the front USB and Reboot your machine, any change.
can you send the Error messages in the Event Viewer in your next post by
doing this step to get the Error messages which will help in identifying your
issue:
Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will need it
later for this step to copy the error message on it.
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr.msc click [OK] you will get the Event viewer control Panel.
click on each of these:
Application
System
Security
Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or Yellow
exclamation mark /!\ , double click each one to get more info about the
causer.
On the Event error properties message you will see:
Up Arrow
Down arrow
Two pages
Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the Notepad
you opened earlier and right click on the first line and select Paste from
the list, this will paste the error message on a Notepad.
Please don't duplicate the error message one of each kind will be sufficient.

Thanks for taking so much time on this.
Ive already confirmed in earlier posts that usb2 is working fine from the
rear of the pc, and following your instructions in your last post I can
confirm that Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller is indeed listed in
the device properties.
If it means uninstalling drivers that I might not be able to install again
I'd rather leave things as they are. Im not very pc savvy, and if there was a
quick decisive fix for this problem then that would have been great.
I was so relieved to still have a working pc after meddling with the
registry, I can live with the hubs Ive added on.
Thanks again for all your help.

Hi. Three weeks ago I installed Registry cleaner software on my pc but
unfortunately it cleaned more than it should have and my pc would not start,
even in safe mode. In desperation I tinkered with the bios (the only thing I
could get on screen) systematically enabling everything that was disabled,
and disabling everything that was enabled, rebooting each time with the
back-up disc I made when I bought the pc in the cd drive each time.
Eventually, something must have worked because the pc suddenly burst into
life and the cd did its job and re-installed Windows for me.
Everything's working fine now apart from the three USB2 ports on the front
of the machine. Whatever I plug in to these ports, I get an error message
saying "This device can perform faster if you connect to a USB2 port.
The USB ports on thr rear of the machine are unaffected.
Please help.
Thanks
How can you tell if you have USB2.0 installed on your system, try the
following:
Right click My Computer >> Select Properties >> On System properties click
Hardware tab.
On Hardware Tab click on Device Manager and locate this or Expand the Plus
[+] to [-] Minus to see the tree of USB :
[-]Generic USB Hub
intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal host contoller 24D2
intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal host contoller 24D2
intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal host contoller 24D4
intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal host contoller 24D7
####################################
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller << this means you have USB2.0
####################################
USB Composite Device
USB Composite Device
USB Mass Storage Device
USB 2.0 root hub << also this
USB root hub
USB root hub
USB root hub
If you got the Enhanced in your USB tree you got USB2.0, try to Remove it
and Reboot your machine, windows should install it for you if does have the
driver, if it doesn't you need to Get the updates from the Machine
Manufacturer website or you may be given a CD with all drivers on it.
Or you can tell us the Model and we can help.
