I'm right in saying that BitLocker will be installed as a hardware chip on
some new computers, and that the BitLocket Control Panel will link into
this... can you confirm this Andre? Not sure if I've got my links tied again
:blush:P

Do you mean using a USB-disk as some sort of a digital "key" to unlock your
computer and log on..?

Could well be... but the BitLocker thing is there to encypt your data in
case you're on the Tube (London) and someone pinches your laptop bag. You
can just shout out "Ah ha! I have Windows Vista Ultimate with BitLocker
encryption, you may have the hardware but you shall not have my data!".

.... then go home and cry because you need a laptop ;o)

Either way, you are still going to be unhappy. Imagine if its a $3000
laptop. I would prefer for the thief to have the data.

But... if you work for a living, you may be dealing with data where the loss
of the data is a multi-million dollar problem, and the loss of a laptop is
relatively trivial. Some data is worth human life to protect from theft
(usually it's data on other human lives). More valuable than money, more
valuable than the laptop.

No,
i mean a security option i've heard.
I want to set which usbstick the system accept to use.
Other USB-Stick should not be used on the system (for dataexchange etc.)

Can you help me?

I think I know the option you're thinking of. It's a group policy that
enables sys admins to disable the use of USB keys. I suspect that it's a
blanket policy, either allowed or not allowed. You'll need to look in the
group policy tool to configure it.

It would not be on the laptop in the first place, it would be stored on a
remote server, thats why we have things called VPNs.
