USB scanner device not recognized

I had to disconnect my PC because of remodeling. I've
had it reconnected and working for a couple weeks except for my HP
Scanjet 4670 which I tried today. It is a USB device and was working
great up to when I disconnected everything. Now when I connect it to
the PC (XP SP2) I get a 'USB device not recognized' message pop-up.
I've tried a front USB port and two different ones on the rear of the
PC and all result in the same message. Running HP's system diagnostic
and selecting the imaging device/scanjet 4600 series from the list of
devices tells me that it is not connected and other info that it must
have collected back when it was connected and working.

What is the problem with Windows XP and what can I do to get it to
recognize my scanner as it did before I disconnected everything?

I've connected this scanner to another XP system and installed the
software there and it works fine with the USB port on the other system
so there's no hardware problem with the scanner itself.

thanks,
Larry

Unplugging, switching off and reconnecting and rebooting
the machine allowing the system plug and play to try again
often works. Persistence usually gets a result. That has
been my experience with USB.

You might try checking whether there are software updates
and later drivers.
