USB Safe to remove hardware

I hve recently fitted a Speedtouch USB modem for broadband and now
regularly see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray. It
doesn't appear for my scanner or printter so why does it always appear
for the modem? It doesn't cause any problems, it is just one of those"I
would like to know why?" things.

Ian,

Right click the Taskbar | Properties | Taskbar tab | Customize button |
Find the Safely Remove Hardware icon | Select Always hide | OK | Apply | OK

It is there for devices that might be in the middle of transferring data
- if just pulled it might leave software hanging. SRH then makes sure
that anything of the sort is shut down to allow safe removal.
