usb problem

The only external devices I can get to work on any of my usb ports are
my printer and an external keypad. I had used thumbdrives and an
external hd with no problem for quite some time, but now they all get
a USB Device Not Recognized error. I've tried plugging all the same
devices into another computer and had total success.

The computer in question is over 4 years old. It is a Sony VAIO.

Suggestions?

Try rt clicking MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>USB
Controllers>rt click each one and
choose Uninstall. Restart and let WinXP reinstall them.
