i'd been having problems with my palm m500 while trying
to hotsync to my laptop. i called palm and went through a
number of options and i was told that it was a windows xp
issue and to call microsoft. naturally, you need to jump
through hoops to get help so i figured id ask here. i
downloaded service pack 1 hoping that it would fix the
issue. what happens is that the palm software doesnt
recognize the usb ports and skips over them and tries to
read from the serial port. service pack 1 did not work so
i tried to download a usb update. that also didnt work.
now, i cant use the usb ports at all. previsouly i could
use a mouse i had, just not the palm. but now i cannto
use anything. anyone know whats going on here or have any
suggestions? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you getting any specific error messages that leads you
to believe Windows is causing the problem?

If your USB ports are not working AT ALL it sounds more
like a hardware issue. You may want to contact your
computer's (or motherboard's) manufacturer and talk to
them about the problem.
