usb hardware not detected

Hello,
I plugged in an mp3 player via USB. It is supposed to be plug and play but
it isn't working (the mp3 player says that there is no driver installation
required). The 'found new hardware' wizard opens and takes me through the
steps to install but in the end, the message is that the hardware is not
installed and I don't get an icon in 'my computer' for the 'USB Mass Storage'
removable disk. It appears I am missing a driver although my digital camera
has worked before on this driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg

Ok Greg.....
you may just have to Refresh your Driver.... This dose not require Restart
though you can....
Go to Start menu then control pannels then system then Hardware then Device
manager.
You will see a list of your installed Drivers from Processor to USB.
Highlight the Computer Icon on top and then on the Second top button
bar click the Computer Icon.
The Comp will check your Drivers for Change, you might get a question
Mark this says the Driver is missing or not installed, a Yield sign with a !
in it this tells you have a Driver conflict.
Let it run, most times this will solve your problem.....you will not
have to do anything Fancy....
If this dose not then Post back or Email at (e-mail address removed)

Thanks Justin... I tried to update but it says that I have the most up to
date driver. I noticed that when I plug my device in, a new category is
created outside of the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" category of the
Device Manager. It appears a couple categoris above it and says it is a 'USB
Generic device'. This is the device with a yellow (!) on it. Any other
ideas..
Thanks,
Greg

Greg, does the MP3 player have a power button? You must turn it on, and
the batteries are inserted, for XP to recognize the player and install the
drivers, if needed.

HI - yes, the power goes on as soon as the USB cord is plugged into the
device. Windows recognizes that the device has been plugged in and takes me
through the wizard to install the hardware but it keeps coming up with the
message, after going through it all, that the hardware did not get installed
and will not function properly.
Thanks,
Greg
