USB Flash Drive Write Protection Error

Dear all,

I am having RiDATA 128 MB USB flash drive and I am getting the
following error while writing to the drive.

"The disk is write protected"

The OS is Windows XP with SP2.

I tried all the possibilities like adding write protect string value
in the system registry, kill disk, trying using de-fragmentation, test
diagnostic tools, but all in vein.

Above all I am absolutely sure that there is no write protection
switch on the drive. I even removed the top plastic case and verified
it.

Can anyone who successfully overcame this error, kindly provide the
method of overcoming this.

Regards.

No familiar with the RiDATA device but I have seen several USB flash
drives that have either a hardware switch or special software to set
the drive to write protect.

Have you tried the drive on a different PC?

You may have to contact the manufacturer.
I had a SanDisk and it was like a giant floppy disk with the Write protect
tab set. The device had no such switch.
I contacted SanDisk, they had me send the unit back, and they sent me a new
unit.
