USB Flash Drive Write Protect Error

I have a Kingston USB Data Traveler, KUSBDTI/512KR, win XP Pro SP1 gives me
an error message after writing 250 to 350 MB of data stating that the drive
is write protected. Selecting properties on the files shows read only.
There is no write protection on this device. The first error message is
Windows Write Protect Error. The disk cannot be written to because it is
write protected. Please remove the write protection from the volumn KINGSTON
in drive \device\harddisk1\dr19. After that I get the error message is Error
Copying File or Folder. Cannot copy filename the disk is write protected.
Remove the write-protection or use another disk.

I've selected properties/hardware/drive/properties/policies for the drive,
and selected optimize for performance. Then when I safely remove USB
Hardware and reinstall the device I can delete files. Otherwise changing the
read only property does not take affect and the errors continue. I've
deleted all the files and started over with the error occurring at a
different file.

I have an ASUS a7n8x deluxe, AMD 2800+, win xp pro, haven't installed SP2 yet.

I have not tried the device anywhere else yet. But I have tried copying
different files.

Kelly; My USB drive shows up as drive F, and then E, on two different
systems. The first system has a C drive, two CD drives, followed by the
flash memory.

Since the original post I tried to format the USB Flash Drive. Format
failed, now Win XP sees the drive as unformatted and will not write or read
any data. I'm taking it back tonight.

I've also tried a second Win XP Pro system with identical results. It would
be nice to know if 512MB Flash Drives play well with XP?

I have tried my device in 3 different machines and get the same erro
in all of them. I tried to format mine and now am left with
useless flash drive since it started the process but wasn't able t
finish. I really hope someone has some clue as to what to do.
Kelly's info didn't seem to help me at all

there is a hardware write-un protect switch on USB flash drive

Look no further. No need to do anything with the registry. Just visit this URL:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_flash_drive
And try to use a needle or a pin to insert some force on the latches to make it writeable.(Look at No. 7 write protect)
I spent 3 hrs. to fix this problem as i dont wanted to pay $59 to Microsoft for giving me a answer that "talk to drive manufacturer" etc...
I tried the solution via editing registry but it didn't work....
i screwed my 2 GB drive by simultaneosly copying more than 2 GB from 3 threads as a result i saw this message-cudn't copy/delete as drive is write protected-they also provided some /..../..../ . I tried mounting it in Linux and then deleting but it didn't worked there also.
