USB flash drive does not autorun when plugged in

If I plug any flash drive, whether usb1.1 or 2.0 Windows is failing to
autoplay it, i.e. initialising the file browser window. Does anybody have a
solution to this? It probably has to do with a registry setting, but which
one?
