After I have used a USB Device (USB 2.0) such a digital camera, external hard drive, scanner close it correctly and return to desktop I get the Egg Timer and a Freeze.
When I call up Task Manager nothing shows as running so I click for a restart.
I get a message Explorer.Exe and Option "END NOW".
It has only recently happened. Windows XP Home SP2. I have 1GB RAM.
The computer restarts everything OK until I use a USB Device again.
I know that if you disconnect a USB Device you Switch Off at the taskbar first but I am not disconnecting them.
It is driving me mad. Any advice please

Is the USB onboard or PCI? if the latter try it in a different slot.

no no, not an internal one ... just get a 'powered hub' that'll do.

Not all MBs can cope, and god knows what Dell use, most USB 'problems' can easily be cured with an external 'powered' hub.

Glad its sorted. :thumb:
