As far as I found out there two different tools for making an USB stick bootable:

"HP Drive Key Boot Utility"

and

"HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool"

What is the difference between them?

"HP Drive Key Boot Utility" is I think for HP USB sticks, it does not work
for me, asks for the Drive letter of the USB sick I cant enter a thing..

Just Had a look at the files that are Installed seems its for the Compaq and
list Linux files, that its why its a 45meg Dnload.

Just get the SP27608.EXE Yes I have used it that is all you need.

a regular formatted usb
must be reformatted with
their special program
perhaps to create a
boot sector to accomadate
the boot files

then the other program
will install the booting
files.

not exactly sure, since
this was one or two years
that I created one.

fun project, but decided
that I didn't really need
a bootable usb and
reformatted it to be a
regular usb that I did
need.

a regularly formatted
usb is not bootable.

thus you need their
utility to format the
usb for this specific
purpose.

afterwards, you will
then need to install
the special boot files
via their other utility.

later, if you want to use that
usb stick for standard files,
then you will have to
reformat the stick via
the standard method.
