USB 2.0 Hi-Speed

Hello

USB 2.0 Hi-Speed

I have XP Pro with 4 USB 2.0 ports on my PC.

The Canon printer I have has a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed port. But, when I connect
the USB cable to this hi-speed port the printer does not work.

The manual says my PC must support USB 2.0 Hi-Speed and so too the USB
cable. How can I make my PC convert to USB 2.0 Hi-Speed ? Where can I buy
a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 cable ? Thank you

Regards

If you are running XP with SP-1 you should already have
the drivers for USB 2.0. If you do not have SP-1, then
you may need special drivers, usually obtained from the
maker of the USB contoller (or motherboard or PC).

You might want to try a test with a USB 2.0 external hard
drive, if you can borrow one from a friend. If the speed
to copy files (say 100 Meg or so) is about as fast as
copies inside the PC, then you have USB 2.0 woking; if
copies are about 10X to 20X slower to the external drive,
then that is USB 1.1.

As for a special cable, they can be found at placs like
Circuit City and CompUSA. However, most USB 2.0 devices
will also work fine on an older USB 1.1 cable, if it is
not too long.

Did your printer come with any installation disk or
floppy? My HP printer came with some software tools to
diagnose problems and fix some that were software
related. In my case there was a special CD marked "for
XP". Check the printer website for newer tools and maybe
even some drivers. Finally, be sure that the printer has
power before you connect it to the PC, and the PC is up at
the windows desktop level.
