USB 2.0 Devices not recognized

I am running Windows XP SP3. My PC has not been able to recognize USB
devices since I installed SP2 on it. KB892050 addresses this problem but it
affects SP2 and not SP3.

Whenever I plug in a USB device a message comes up with the text "USB Device
Not Recognized" and to click the message for assistance. In the Device
Manager it shows up as an unknown device. Any advice on solving this would
be greatly appreciated.

Is this an Intel based system? If so, did you install the Intel
Chipset Software Installation utility?

It is an Intel based system. The USB devices were recognized before.
However, I believe the problem started after SP2 was installed. I will look
into reinstalling the Intel Chipset Software Installation utility.
