Usage reports metrics?

On one of the Frontpage 2003 Usage Reports the stats that are shown are for
hits, total hits and visits. Can someone please explain the difference?
I've searched online help and found no explanation.

TIA,
Susan

Visit = a person clicking a link to open your site. This starts a session.
Hit = the page that was opened. If it's refreshed it's another hit.
Total hits = the total number of pages opened by all visitors.

In one "Visit / Session" a viewer can generate multiple "Hits"

Thanks Steve - that's clear about the difference between hits and visits,
but whats the difference between hits and total hits? (e.g. 4000 hits in a
month and 6000 total hits in a month)? Does it have to do with a hit is
only counted once per visist but total hits count if during the same visit
the visitor "hits" the same page more than once?

Thanks for the speedy response! Have a nice day.
