URL display in chat rooms

I have been reluctant to visit any chat rooms because the URL for my
connection is displayed. Am I (1) being overly paranoid, (2) being safe, (3)
ignorant about how people can view my internet address, (4) all of the above.

I do know that if I visit most any chat room, the quantity of SPAM in my
mailbox rises. Is there really a connection?

depends on whether there is an option to display a modified
e-mail address. like here in the groups
and a full firewall should help to block some info.
