Pogo chat rooms do not come up

Hi

I go to Pogo.com and play their games at the same time I chat in the chat room with the game. I have no problem playing the games, but all of a sudden the chat rooms do not come up any more. I have asked them for help and they are telling me to re-install Java. Now I checked my options and under Microsoft VM the JIT compiler box is the only one checked.

Also some of the other people that chat in those rooms also have the problem. Now What boxes should be checked under Microsoft VM? I tried unchecking the JIT and rebooted and then when I tried to connect to the net it would not connect so I put the check back and rebooted. I can play all other games also. Have no problem with the games only this chat room. No other chat rooms have a problem

Hi njconnie,

Online games are usually developed using Flash, Java, or Virtual Machine.
The most likely solution to a problem with an online game is to install, upgrade,
or reinstall the right one for the game site you're playing on.

A. For Zone.com games: Zone.com are converting most of their games for Flash
to avoid the conflicts between the Sun Java system and Microsoft's Virtual Machine.
Install Flash from: http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/frameset.fhtml

B. Most other game sites still use Java:
Sun.com will examine your system requirements and install the Java version you
need when you click: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

C. If the online game still won't load, or gives you errors, try these steps:

1. Click START / Control Panel / Internet Options and click on the Advanced Tab.

2. Below HTTP 1.1 is the Sun Java/ Microsoft VM section: Make sure all Java choices
are unchecked (especially JIT) and then press [OK]. You may be prompted to reboot.

3. If you don't see a Microsoft VM section then download Microsoft Virtual Machine for:
Windows 98 / Me / NT / XP from: http://www.abxair.com/software/msjavx86.exe

4. After you download Java, double-click the file to install it, reboot and then follow
the directions in Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other advanced options.

* Whenever you get a Java Virtual Machine Security Update from Windows Update, you
will have to follow Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other adv. options again.

6. If the problem persists Adjust Your browser settings using this basic example:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/nibblesnbits/EnterRooms.html#IE

7. Try these suggestions for Zone's Java Games:
http://classic.zone.msn.com/zzzz/help/helpjavagames.asp

8. Maybe it's a software conflict: Make certain that your Firewall or Antivirus program is
not configured to block Java Applets. Norton's products for example have that option.
If you're unsure temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with Firewall,
Antivirus & AdBlockers using: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=331796
or this utility: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

9. If you have a Coffee Cup icon in your system tray (next to the time) you might have a
conflict between MS VM and Java: Uninstall Java using Control Panel / Remove Programs.

10. Check the Help / Support section of the game site in question for Java topics relevant to
that site. There is usually an email or a (non Java) help chat available as well. :)

Hi Jimmy-
I went to internet options and unchecked JIT and restarted my computer. Then when I tried to connect to the internet it would not dial. So I put the check back and restarted the computer. Please tell me what does the JIT do

Also shouldn't I check the box to enable the Java. Right now it is unchecked.

I also visited Macromedia for the Flash player. It wanted me to upgrade to 10.1. So I guess I have Flash but do not have Shockwave. I had problems with Macromedia in the past on my old computer. Took me months to resolve that problem.
I went to update and the download stalled in the initial upgrade and then when I tried to re install it I could not get it to install. So I am very afraid to upgrade from them. At that time I had to upgrade my broswer to resolve it

What is your opinion. All games and other chat rooms work. So you see I do not want to do anything to mess them up
I am only having a problem with Pogo's Chat room not coming up. Their games load fine and I am able to play them
Thank you for your help

Hi Connie,

Unchecking JIT just affects how it responds when you
try to load a Java applet. If it's preventing you from
dialling out, there might be something else affecting you.
Have you asked your internet provider about this too?
