URGENT: WM 4.7 spontaneously goes offline, various errors

D

Dan Wilcken

All our installations of Windows Messenger 4.7 on a .NET
login spontaeously log out after a couple of minutes.

Even though I appear to be logged in, if I try to change
my status I get "Your status could not be changed. Please
try again later" and then when I click "OK" my Messenger
window goes to a "Click here to sign in" login screen.

If I try to instant message one of the contacts in my
Online list, a blue exclamation mark message appears
saying "You cannot send a message because you are not
signed in" and then, again with the login screen.

As long as I am active in a conversation, that
conversation stays alive.

Other users verify that I suddenly go offline after I've
been inactive for about 3 minutes or so, but there is no
indication of this on my screen.

This appears to have nothing to do with the setting that
says "Show me as 'Away' if I'm inactive for [25] minutes"
in the preferences dialog.

FYI, I connect to .NET Messenger Service directly (no
firewall) and am running XP Pro with all updates.

We are trying evaluate Windows Messenger against our
current AOL Instant Messenger to handle internal
corporate communications. Obviously if this spontaenous
loss of connections is normal, then Windows Messenger
would be useless to us.

Any help would be appreciated, ASAP.

Thanks,
Dan Wilcken

I'm experiencing very similar symptoms with Windows Messenger 5.0.0482
after my SP2 install on XP... quite annoying and frustrating... has
anyone found a solution to this periodic signing off? I get signed
off of the .NET service while still maintaining connectivity to our
internal exchange messenger service.
