upgrade

I own a computer that crashed. The hard drive is new with
windows XP Professional on it. I bought a new computer
with XP Home, can I use my XP Pro to upgrade the new
computer, or how do I go about getting permission. I
bought the XP Pro about a month or two ago. I plan on
installing the old hard drive as a slave drive as I have
files I need.

It depends on what type of license came with XP Pro...if it
was a retail upgrade or full install you bought, yes you can
install it on the new computer. If it is an OEM CD it will
not do an upgrade.

XP Home and Pro will run the same software applications, all
you gain with Pro is some networking and security features
that are needed in offices to control users.

If you install XP Pro on your new computer you will void the
warranty (probably).

Add - an OEM license (Whether the system came with the computer, or was
bought separately) is one solely for the first machine it was installed
on The license dies with the machine and may not be reused
