Is it possible for me to upgrade my lowly xp home edition to the new x64 bit
version without me having to buy the x64 it separatly? I know 32 bit pro
users can do a swap but is there anything i can do with my home edition?

You can keep your XP home, or sell it.
The exchange programs are unfortunately only for XP Pro.
This was probably smart on the part of MS, but some XP Home users will be
disappointed.

You'll have to purchase WinXPx64. First of all, it will be available
only as an OEM license, so it cannot perform upgrades of any kind.
Secondly, the only WinXP Pro users who can get an opportunity to
"exchange" their 32-bit versions for the 64-bit version are those who
purchased a pre-installed OEM 32-bit WinXP Pro between March 31, 2003
and July 31, 2005.

Upgrade to Windows XP Professional x64 Edition from Windows XP
Professional (32-bit)
