Upgrade Windows 2000 to XP home?

Hi,

Is it possible to buy an upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Home
edition?

So far, the only upgrade I have been able to find requires you to have
Windows 98 or Windows Millenium.

Thanks,
Paul

No. Windows 2000 is a qualifying product for an upgrade to XP Pro, but not
XP Home.

No. Microsoft considers that a downgrade. You can upgrade from Windows 2000
Professional to Windows XP Professional, but not to XP Home.

There are other supported upgrade paths, but there is only one Upgrade
edition (not separate ones depending on what you are upgrading from), and it
works for all upgrades that are supported. As I said, 2000 Professional to
XP Home is not supported.

No. Win2K can be upgraded to WinXp Pro, but not to WinXP Home.

That would be correct.

You can upgrade from Windows Me to Windows XP without a problem.

The issue below is that you can not upgrade from Windows 2000 Professional
to Windows XP Home; that's considered a downgrade. The upgrade from Windows
2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional is fine; it's just 2000
Professional to XP Home that's not supported.

However, note that many Windows Me-era computers may be underpowered to run
Windows XP with acceptable performance.

It can't be done by download, and it's not free. You have to buy a
WinXP CD. You can get an Upgrade version, which will save you some
money. You can use either Home or Professional. Home is cheaper, but
can't join a domain. If that function is important to you, you'll have
to spend the extra bucks for Professional.

And don't get an OEM version. They will not upgrade an existing OS.
