I just purchased XP home upgrade and installed on a IBM thinkpad T21 (PIII 800MHz (256KB), 256MB RAM, 20.0GB HDD W98 ) of which I am a registered owner What a mess. I cannot find any IBM support. Is this not compatable? Thanks, Curious

If it's a Retail Upgrade CD you purchased, then Microsoft provides the
support for the XP Operating System. If you purchased an OEM XP CD, then
whomever you purchased the XP CD from provides the support.

The XP disk has a compatibility checker on the disk . It is always best to
run it first. This will best answer your question. Jym

Greetings --

Have you made sure that your PC's hardware components are capable
of supporting WinXP? There's much more to it than merely meeting
WinXP's requirements for CPU speed, amount of RAM, and hard drive
space. This information will be found at the PC's manufacturer's web
site, and on Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List:
(http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp) Additionally, run
Microsoft WinXP Upgrade Advisor (It's on the installation CD.) to see
if you have any incompatible hardware components or applications.

You should, before proceeding, take a few minutes to ensure that
there are WinXP device drivers available for all of the machine's
components. There may not be, if the PC was specifically designed for
Win98/Me. Also bear in mind that PCs designed for, sold and run fine
with Win9x/Me very often do not meet WinXP's much more stringent
hardware quality requirements. This is particularly true of many
models in Compaq's consumer-class Presario product line or HP's
consumer-class Pavilion product line. WinXP, like WinNT and Win2K
before it, is quite sensitive to borderline defective hardware
(particularly motherboards, RAM and hard drives) that will still
support Win9x.

Thanks for input, I have run advisor and read and took care of issues it suggested, however, I lost all audio, "cannot find help for audio drivers" speed is terrable, IE feezes when logged in, perhaps a full install? instead of upgrade. And yes I purchased CD. I found other compatibality issues as well, I guess my guestion now is,: If i were to completly dump HD and start with W98 and add "none of IBMS" updated drivers, then upgrade to XP would MY T21operate properly. Thanx, curious

Notebook computers require the installation of specialized hardware drivers
only the notebook manufacturer can provide.
Visit http://www-1.ibm.com/support/us/all_download_drivers.html and download
the Windows XP drivers designed for your specific model IBM notebook, including
the video adapter and audio device drivers.

After installing the new drivers, right-click on your Desktop and select:
Properties > Settings and change the Color Quality to Highest (32-bit), then
adjust the Screen Resolution to your liking.

Then visit http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/default.htm
and click on "ClearType Tuner Updated".
