So i tried to upgrade to xp from 98. the installation was
successful, but i could not get into xp because it said i
had a password, although i never specified one. so i
tried to reinstall, but i always get an error message:
MigMainInit:MemDbload would not load
C:\Windows\setup\ntsetup.dat (ERROR=3)
W95UpgNt_Migrate: MigMain_Init failed (ERROR=3)
I found the solution to my specific problem in the
microsoft knowledge base (article 316417). the article
tells me that my registry is corrupted. i need to hide
some lines in my boot.ini file, but it never gives any
detailed instructions on how to do that. it might be
easier if i could actually get into the operating system,
but the most i can do is boot from my installation cd and
work with the recovery console. anyone have any idea on
how to hide lines and which ones to hide?
thanks for the help
