upgrade from home edition to pro

I want to upgrade my laptop which is in Windows XP home edition sp2. If I
don't want to make the slipstreamed version, should I just uninstall the sp2
on the home edition, then install the pro edition sp1, then upgrade to pro
sp2? I don't want to lost files and drivers on my original home edition
setting.

Yes that's how to do it without using an installation disk that doesn't
have SP2.

Yes, what you propose will work fine. However, why don't you want
to make a slipstreamed version? I would recommend that you *do*,
since it's good to have around if you ever need to do a repair
installation.

I don't want to lost files and drivers
on my original home edition setting.

Although it's unlikely that anything will go wrong upgrading
(slipstreamed or not), it's always possible. For that reason
it's prudent to be sure you have a backup of anything you can't
afford to lose before beginning.

Slipstreamed version looks like a fairly complicated procedure. That is why
I try to go another route.

It really isn't. I see that Rock gave you some links on how to do
it. I recommend that you try it, and use the alternative only if
you are unsuccessful.
