Upgrade Advisor won't work. Why?

F

FERRANTE

I have downloaded and tried to run the Vista Upgrade Advisor and each
time I run it, I get an error window that opens and says:

VistadUpgradeAdvisor.exe--Application Error

The application failed to initialize properly (OxcOOOO135). Click on
OK to terminate the application.

Anyone know why this is happening? I have a Pentium 4, 1.2, with a 30
gig hard drive, 11 gig free. And I have 1024 megs of ram, if this info
helps.

You need more that 11 gig of free space to install Vista, with all the
temporary files and such.

Hi,

Go to microsoft.com and locate, download, and install the .net
redistributable (dotnetfx).

Ok, I did what you said, but I am having trouble installing it. When I
execute the file, it asks me to locate a folder for the extracted
files. I just picked a temp folder I have, click OK, and it says:

Setup could not find a drive with 21827 kb free disk space to install
the program. Please free up some space and try again.

Hi,

Delete files in the both the the %windir%\temp and %userprofile%\local
settings\temp folders, then retry.

Where do I find these folders? I looked and could not find them
anywhere.

Thanks,

Are you sure you should be installing Vista? Look in Windows on your XP
system also Documents and Settings\(username)\local settings\temp

Hi,

Click start/run, or hit the winkey+r to open the run box, then either type
or copy/paste the paths given and hit <enter>. Likely it is that you are
either not set to see hidden and system folders, or perhaps you are not
familiar with the use of % variables.

Mark - %windir% and %userprofile% are "place holders" - in their place you
substitute the actual name used on your computer. Standard usage %windir% =
C:\Windows and %userprofile% = user name on you computer.
Mark - I agree with John - if you feel comfortable with your Windows
knowledge OK - if not do not consider Vista at this time.
