Do I qualify for a free or reduce upgrade to Vista Home

I live in Canada and on Oct 26, 2006, I bought a new PC computer made by a
local store in Canada. This computer was equipped with Windows XP Media
Center 2005. This software is genuine and was properly activated and
registerd with Microsoft. I have the original disk of Windows Media Center.
It necessarily a full install.

My question is since I live in Canada, do i qualify for some sort of free or
reduced cost upgrade to Vista Home?

Vista advisor says that my computer is compatible with Windows Vista and
needs no action.

The computer has Intel Core 2 duo 6600, 2 megs of memory, Nvidia GeForce
7900 GTX, 2 HD of 320 gigs.

Thanks

You are welcome at anytime.......

It"s something I was told by my store in Ottawa when I bought this new
computer. I just call it and the sale person told me i needed some sort of
coupon. He will look at it and call me back.

I also read some time ago that any computer bought after Oct 25, 2006 with
a genuine windows xp could receive an upgrade to Vista at a reduced price.

I am sure you heard about this also.

Yes, that's true with most new computers. You should get a coupon that will
give you a "free" copy of Vista, but will have to pay for shipping (usually
$10 US)
I think it will be an upgrade version and beware that if you ever need to
reinstall your Vista, you will have to reformat your PC, install XP, install
XP SP2, activate your XP, then you can do the Vista upgrade again. A pain
in the a$$, but what do you expect for free :)

Is it cold there?

Yes, there were some 'free' (shipping not included) upgrades to Vista with a
new system purchased from October xx on. But these offers are and were up to
the manufacturer of the system to participate, provide details, coupons,
etc. It is not a "Direct from Microsoft" thing.
So it's not "any computer"--it is specific computers from specific
manufacturers who should provide the details if they were participating in
such an offer.
